For the last 6 years Keith and Katie have shared an office sitting less than 10 feet apart in camping ministry. We’ve worked with hundreds of church leaders to facilitate meaning experiences for all age groups. Before our time together in camping ministry, Keith Harrison was a pastor for 20+ years and while he experienced hundreds of the mountaintop moments that remind so many of us of the ‘why’, more often than not he found himself in the darkest, loneliest valleys of his life. One thing is abundantly clear: leadership is lonely. 

We all live for the mountaintop moments, don’t we? Right where heaven meets earth, the thin space. Experience however tells us that life happens in the walking in between. In the valleys, the climbs, the small hills and enormous cliff faces. In Ben Rector’s song, I Like You, he sings, “'Cause life is not the mountain tops it's the walkin' in between”. 

We’ve learned first hand that the walking, particularly for ministry leaders, can be lonely, dark, scary, tiresome and the list goes on. Keith experienced this as a pastor and we have walked with church leaders for years running a race on empty. Together we’ve planned dozens of events that we’ve executed to help bring people closer to God and each other. We’ve worked with pastors and church leaders and have opportunities and distinct privilege to sit with them in their pain. For years we’ve joked, ‘wouldn’t it be cool one day if we had a ministry and did this for a living”. Well, recent shared layoffs launched us into ‘one day’. Here we are, deeply called to sit with people in the mess and ready to follow His leading. 

We believe that shared experiences are powerful moments that God gives us to draw us closer to Him. With Walking in Between we desire to create intentional communities that push Christian leaders toward Jesus and each other so they may be spurred onto keep running.
